Stop Nigeria's "Jail the Gays" bill
Nigeria just passed the "Jail the Gays" bill! It was done with so little warning or scrutiny that Nigerians don't even know what's in the bill. If no changes were made in passing it, the bill goes straight to President Jonathan for his signature or veto.
Sign and share the petition NOW to call on the President veto this outrageous bill.
The original bill outlaws forming organisations supporting LGBT rights and banning gay marriage. It sets prison terms of up to 14 years for offenders and 10 years for any supporting or attending a marriage.
Posted November 2012:
At any moment, Nigeria's parliament could pass one of the harshest anti-gay laws the world has ever seen.
- 10 years in prison for living with someone of the same sex
- 10 years in prison for supporting the idea of a pride march
- 14 years in prison for trying to have a wedding
All Out is working closely with the following partner organisations in Nigeria:
Changing Attitude Nigeria, Improved Youth Health Initiative, Initiative for Advancement of Humanity, International Center for Advocacy on Right to Health, Sexual Minorities Against AIDS in Nigeria, The Initiative for Equal Rights, The Initiative for Improved Male Health, Nigerian LGBTIs in the Diaspora Against Anti-Same Sex Laws.
TO: President Jonathan of Nigeria
I'm joining with leaders across Nigeria to ask you to protect your own citizens by vetoing the anti-gay bill when it crosses your desk. It is a distraction from the serious problems facing all Nigerians.
The time to stop it and respect human rights is now.
