Tell Russia: No Gay Gag Order

Russian%20activists_large_large

UPDATE February 10th: The outrageous "propaganda" bill has passed its 2nd reading in St. Petersburg's parliament. Our friend Polina reports that we still have time to call world leaders -- the 3rd reading will come next week. Pick up the phone now: it's time to push for equality, everywhere.

The pressure is working -- our calls have pressured four major countries to speak out and condemn the law: thank you to those who called Australia, Canada, France, Germany and the United States. Spread the world far and wide!

Lawmakers are about to vote on bill that will make it illegal for any person to write a book, publish an article or speak in public about being gay, lesbian, bi or transgender. And this is just the beginning - if the law passes in St. Petersburg, officials have threatened to take it nationwide.

Activists in St. Petersburg are rushing to organize a public protest against the bill, but no matter where you are, you can stand with them. Support them by calling your country's foreign affairs office now and telling them to use every means possible to stop this law from passing. If enough of us call, our countries' diplomatic pressure can help stop the vote before it happens.

Right now, the world needs to speak up and tell Russian authorities to drop this discriminatory gag order.

Only days to make this urgent call

Lawmakers in Saint Petersburg could pass a bill that will crush freedom of expression for Russians and make LGBT people invisible. But leaders around the world can help stop it.

Call your foreign affairs office, and tell your country's official to speak out:

I called my Foreign Affairs Office, and got to speak with the direct Advisor to the Minister. She was clearly happy to be informed, because she was unaware of this problem. She will call me back.
